Pack the beach towels, grab the dog lead and round up the family. Here are some of our favourite ways to explore Looe and the surrounding area.
No family holiday in Cornwall feels quite complete without a day at the beach.
Looe is surrounded by lovely stretches of coastline where you can paddle, build sandcastles, hunt for treasures in rock pools and simply enjoy being beside the sea.
East Looe Beach is a great choice for a traditional family beach day. Its location close to the town means an ice cream, Cornish pasty or little wander around the shops is never far away.
Travelling with your dog? West Looe Beach is a favourite for families with four-legged holidaymakers too. At low tide, children can spend hours exploring the rock pools while the whole family enjoys the fresh Cornish air.
Our advice? Keep a beach bag packed in the lodge. In Cornwall, you never know when the sun might tempt you to head for the coast.
Are you a family that likes a little more action?
Then venture inland to Adrenalin Quarry where you’ll find big laughs, big splashes and some seriously big adventures.
Fly across the quarry on a huge zip wire, brave the clifftop Giant Swing or take on the Aquapark. There's also go-karting for family members who prefer their adrenaline on four wheels.
It's a brilliant choice for families with older children and teenagers – particularly those who think a quiet day at the beach sounds a little too relaxing!
After all that excitement, returning to the calm of Doublebois feels even better!
Sitting just off the coast, Looe Island – also known as St George's Island – adds a little extra magic to Looe's coastline.
The island is a protected nature reserve managed by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and can only be landed on as part of an official organised trip. Boat trips and sea safaris also offer a wonderful way to explore the waters around the island and look out for local wildlife.
For children, there's something exciting about setting off from the harbour by boat. For grown-ups, it's a lovely excuse to sit back, enjoy the coastline and see Looe from a completely different angle.
One important note for dog-loving families: dogs aren't permitted on the nature reserve itself, so plan this as a dog-free family adventure.
Walking boots on. Snacks packed. Camera ready.
The coastal walk between Looe and Polperro is a wonderful way to experience Cornwall as a family.
Following the South West Coast Path, the official Looe, Talland and Polperro route is around 5.7 miles, with some climbs and descents along the way. The reward is beautiful coastal scenery, rocky coves and the chance to finish your adventure in the picturesque fishing village of Polperro.
Stop for a drink, find something tasty to eat and enjoy a wander through the village before planning your journey back.
For active families and dogs that love a proper walk, it's a fantastic day out. Just remember water for everyone – including your four-legged explorer.
For a gentler family adventure, spend a day at Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary.
This family-run wildlife sanctuary in South East Cornwall has been caring for animals for decades and offers visitors the chance to discover creatures from around the world.
It's a lovely choice for curious children and animal-loving families. Take your time, meet the residents and enjoy a day where the biggest question might simply be: “Which animal was your favourite?”
Expect plenty of different answers on the journey home.
Sometimes the best days don't need a big plan.
Head into Looe and simply explore. Watch the fishing boats in the harbour, wander through the streets, choose an ice cream and see where the day takes you.
Children will love spotting boats and searching the rock pools, while dogs can join you for a walk and plenty of seaside sniffs.
And if the weather changes? Find somewhere cosy, order something delicious and call it part of the Cornish experience.
