1. Golitha Falls – Woodland Walks and Riverside Adventures

For a magical woodland adventure, the Golitha Falls Nature Reserve is hard to beat.

This beautiful area is home to ancient woodland, with the River Fowey flowing through a dramatic wooded gorge in a series of cascades and mini-waterfalls. Moss-covered rocks, rushing water and towering trees create a wonderfully wild Cornish setting that has a mystical feel.

It is a really lovely place to explore with your dog and particularly stunning when the woodland is lush and green. Our top tip? Head to Inky’s Smokehouse after your walk to refuel. They serve up a fantastic array of mouthwatering meat-based meals and draw customers from across the county thanks to their excellent reputation.

Good to know: Take care around fast-flowing water and slippery rocks. Paths can be uneven and slippery in places, especially after wet weather, so sturdy footwear is a good idea. As with any nature reserve, keep your dog under close control and respect the local wildlife.

2. Cardinham Woods – One of Cornwall's Best Woodland Dog Walks

If your dog loves the forest, or you simply need some shade, Cardinham Woods deserves a place on your holiday itinerary.

Managed by Forestry England, these majestic woods offer miles of tracks and waymarked walking and cycling routes through pretty Cornish woodland.

One of the most popular options is the Lady Vale Walk, a gentle (and mainly flat) streamside route following Cardinham Water. There are even dog dip spots along the stream for four-legged visitors who enjoy getting their paws wet or need to cool off.

For dogs and owners with more energy, longer trails head deeper into the forest and up through the valley.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, call in to the Woods Café where you’ll be spoilt for choice with their range of home-made meals and treats. There’s even a play park for kids needing to let off a little (more) steam.

Why dogs will love it: Forest trails, streams and plenty of new scents.

Good to know: Dog waste bins are available on the walking trails. Parking charges apply but there is a dog shower and bins in the car park along with toilets. Cardinham Woods is surrounded by farmland and is home to wildlife, so dogs should be kept close and in sight while exploring.

3. Explore the Wild Beauty of Bodmin Moor

For big skies, rugged landscapes and a real sense of adventure, head towards Bodmin Moor, just a short drive from Doublebois Lodge Escape.

This moorland is one of Cornwall's most distinctive landscapes, filled with granite tors, open countryside and fascinating traces of Cornwall's past. Steeped in myth and legend, it is a wonderful place for a longer dog walk and a chance to experience a wilder, untamed side of Cornwall.

Routes around Minions and the Cheesewring are popular with walkers, offering dramatic scenery and far-reaching views.

Please do remember that Bodmin Moor is working countryside. Livestock may be present, so always keep your dog under close control and use a lead around farm animals.

Weather conditions can also change very quickly on the moor. Pack water, wear suitable footwear and check the forecast before setting off, keeping an eye on your location at all times.

What Should You Pack for a Dog-Friendly Holiday in Cornwall?
