There are many amazing beaches within a 15 to 25-minute drive of Doublebois. East Looe Beach is a dog-free, sandy beach, great for paddling and sunbathing. West Looe Beach is a dog-friendly, shingle beach where the children can spend happy hours rock pooling at low tide. Seaton Beach is a lovely sand & shingle beach next to a creek, perfect for kids - and the dog - to paddle, and Talland Bay is a sheltered cove with two small beaches. If surfing is on your agenda, the world famous Fistral Bay on the north coast, is a 45 minute drive away.
Some beaches have seasonal dog restrictions - check with us and we'll be able to advise you.
Experience the rugged heart of Cornwall on Bodmin Moor, a wild and open space. Walk the Smugglers’ Way, climb the tors, and follow the Copper Trail. Out on the coast, pick up the South West Coast Path for clifftop views and hidden coves. At nearby Polperro, hike around Chapel Rock and enjoy the views of the village, before discovering the natural swimming pool left by the receding tide. Drop into Polperro itself for a mooch round one of Cornwall’s prettiest harbour villages. Golitha Falls is another lovely spot for a walk And cycle your way along the Camel Trail as it cuts through some of Cornwall’s prettiest countryside.
We’re just half an hour’s drive from the Eden Project, one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions with its global gardens and outdoor adventures. Even closer to Doublebois is Carnglaze, an atmospheric underground world and ancient woodland, perfect for a day out. Take the children to Porfell Wildlife Park, a lovely little animal sanctuary where they can meet and feed the animals. And The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a delight for all ages, with clever planting revealing surprises and a café for lunch afterwards. For family exercise in the fresh air, visit Cardinham Woods, a beautiful, wooded valley where you can take a gentle walk or a more energetic hike or cycle.
Liskeard, just up the road from Doublebois, harbours a couple of rather special little secrets. Visit The Story of Emily, tracing the fascinating life of the humanitarian and pacifist Emily Hobhouse in Victorian times. And make time, while you are in town, for Liskeard Museum and its wonderful vintage toy collection. Capture the wild spirit of Cornwall at the circular, 13th Century Restormal Castle and off-the-beaten-track Lantic Bay (a steep walk but worth it). Then, for something completely different, try Football Golf in St. Austell.
If your holiday is not complete without a spot of retail therapy, you’re in the right place. The market towns and harbour villages of southeast Cornwall are full of unusual and interesting shops. You’ll find plenty of the shops you love back at home and many more boutique and independent shops, selling gifts, clothing and local crafts. Mooch through the streets of Looe, Polperro and Fowey for unique buys, and head into St. Austell and Truro for more familiar High Street names.
Cooking is a breeze in your accommodation but you don’t want to cook every meal. So take your apron off and head out to The Highwayman (PL14 6JD), a friendly pub that welcomes dogs and is walkable from Doublebois. Further afield, Inkie’s Smokehouse (PL14 6RX), an American-style BBQ and ice cream shack at Golitha Falls, is a locals’ favourite. It’s law that you must eat a Cornish pasty while you’re here, so head for Sarah’s Pasty Shop in Looe (PL3 1AS). And for a Cornish cream tea (jam first), visit Lanhydrock tea rooms, where you can also explore the beautiful gardens.
